Programme Ideas 2020

Welcome

Our County Programme day hosted at Bishop’s Wood, the Field Studies Council Venue in Worcestershire. There will be an option to stay over and learn more skills in good company. We will also be joined by BushScout UK, University of Worcester and the Field Studies Council.

There are a number of activities and the format has been re-designed based on the feedback from last years, where the day will be modular so you can pick and choose with more section specific material. Options will exist to stay over for networking or learning some practical nights away skills and activities in the evening. Below there is a menu to choose from. Once you have chosen your modules, you can book on below. You can come for one module, book out the whole day and even stay over.

Cost

The event is free, all food is provided for in the evening and breakfast if you are camping over. Our evening food will be kindly prepared by the BP Guild Malvern Branch. Lunch will be provided to all participants who stay for the whole day only.

Childcare

Your children are very much welcome to this event. Whilist we cant offer formal Childcare, we will be providng field acitviies and games which will be supervised by YL or Leaders and request if left in this area they are at least primary school age and above.

GSL & Chairs

In the evening GSL and Chairs have been invited to a special event, separate letters and emails have been sent. This evening is a chance for the County to explain what support we can offer to you and your groups and to seek your advice and ideas.


The Day Programme

Programme in a Bag

One bag, several items, hundred games- all ages. Ideal for taking on camp or having in the hut as a backup. Will go through different games and suggestions.

International Planning

Planning and international trip, want help and guidance on the way forward. Speak to leaders who have travelled with Scouting to get top tips and best practice. Sharing of contacts for certain countries and approaches.

GSL – Exec Tools

On the back of the very successful county Exec and Trustee training Derek and John have put together a workshop on GSL recruiting, training and retaining executive members.

What’s on your hike?

Hosted by the Field Studies Council be guided by a qualified expert in their field who will provide you knowledge on who to interact and understand your surrounding when going on a hike. They will provide differentiated activities so all section leaders will benefit. Add real depth to your hikes and make those great programme links.

Hosted by the Field Studies Council- be guided by a qualified expert in their field who will provide you knowledge on who to interact and understand your surrounding when camping. Tarpology

The science of erecting and installing Tarps and hammocks on your camp.

Knife, Axe & Saw for ALL Ages

Tips, advice guidance and approaches to using saws, axes and knifes in all sections from Beavers to Adults.

How to use and include tomahawks (Throwing Axes) in your programme.

Greenfield Camping

An introduction to the skills of Greenfield camping, also if you stay in the evening you can speak to nights away assessors who will be able to help you convert or gain your Greenfield Camping Permit

Learn to navigate by direction without maps or compass.

The Evening Programme

  • Greenfield Camping Forum – 6pm to 7.30pm
  • 7.30pm BBQ
  • GSL and Chair Event – 6pm to 8pm
  • Campfire – learn some new songs @ 8.15pm – you are welcome to join for the campfire and not stay over
  • Late evening – Discussions with County Team on Scouting in the County and UK

If you are only coming for the eveing please book on as evening only.

Camping Info

You can camp and stay over free of charge. All facilites are available on the campsite. You will need to provide your own tent. Tarp and Hammocks are acceptable but are limited to certain areas of the site. Advice will be provided upon your arrival. Please remember to leave not trace and take all your own rubbish home with you.

  • You do not need a nights away permit to stay over.
  • You do not need to submit a Nights away notification form.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
