Explorer Scouts
‘To anyone who hasn’t tried Scouting before, I’d say come on and have a go! I think most people don’t really know that Scouting is about activities, friendship and meeting people from other countries. I’ve been in Scouts since I was 6 and I still love it!’
With the support, direction and guidance of adult volunteers, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the Top Awards that Scouting offers.
There are exciting opportunities, like being on camps and expeditions at home and abroad and doing adventurous activities such as mountaineering, parascending and off-shore sailing.
Explorers offers fun and adventure, but also encourages these young people to become more independent and to challenge themselves.
Explorers also have the opportunity to be a part of The Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme, which helps them develop their leadership skills and sense of responsibility by helping to run meetings for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
Explorer Units are for young people aged between 14 and 18 years old, and although you can start at 13½ in some cases you must leave on your 18th birthday when you can become a member of the Network section and, if you wish, be an adult leader.
The County runs some social event for Explorers so they can meet other Explorers from across all of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Details of upcoming events can be found in the Events section of the website.
