Scout & Explorer Scout Mountain Walking Weekend – Eryri (Snowdonia)
A wonderful opportunity for Scouts and Explorers to enjoy two days amongst the most iconic peaks in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and, weather permitting, climb to the summits. Experienced Terrain 2 hillwalking permit holders will lead the event.
In past years we have walked the Carneddau, Glyders and Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) itself, as well as outlier peaks such as Moel Siabod. The event leader will decide the final routes on the weekend. There will be different options depending on ability and the weather.
The weekend is pitched at those who have some hillwalking experience and a good level of fitness as we’ll be in the mountains all day. It is most important that everyone has all the kit on the list so that we stay safe (see below).
Participants can, if they wish, practice their navigation skills under supervision and earn navigation and hillwalking badges. Coaching for adult volunteers working towards hillwalking permits is also available.
We will stay at Cae Groes House in Llanrwst. All food, from Saturday breakfast until Sunday lunch is included. Meals on Friday evening and Sunday evening, if required, need to be organised by leaders.
Leaders should accompany their Scouts/Explorers.
Please make bookings on a Group/Unit basis.
Leaders need to arrange transport for Young People and themselves to and from Eryi (at additional cost).
The cost is of the event is £50 per person, to include accommodation and food as above.
Leaders can register interest for their Group/Unit by emailing the event organiser and hillwalking advisor, Mark Graham. Mark will then send you a booking form and further details, including the kit list.
