Leaders’ Hillwalking Day – February 2026 (Pen y Fan, Brecon Beacons)
Once a month between October and April we organised a hill walk for adult volunteers. The walks are within about a 2-hour drive of the centre of Herefordshire/Worcestershire and are usually between 6 and 10 miles long.
The walks are led by experienced hillwalking permit holders who will be happy to pass on their knowledge to help you improve your navigation skills or prepare for a permit yourself.
Or you can just come along if you enjoy a day out walking with like-minded Scouting volunteers.
The walks will typically be 6 to 10 miles and will start about 9.30am and finish mid-afternoon.
The walking days lead up to the Eryri Walking/Climbing weekend in May 2026 where we head to north Wales for two days of walking in the dramatic mountain scenery, hopefully ticking off some of the high peaks. The weekend is also the opportunity for leaders to be assessed for a hillwalking permit if they wish. We will be staying at the comfortable Cae Groes House in Llanwrst.
Whilst the days are aimed at adults, if you wish to bring Explorer Scouts keen to improve their navigation skills, please contact Mark Graham at hillwalking@scoutshw.org.uk to arrange this.
