Tomahawk Throwing for Young People – Leaders Course

Date: 8th June 2025 Between: 9:30 am - 4:00 pm Location: Kinver Scout Camp, The Compa, Kinver, Staffs, DY7 6HR

Overview:

This Tomahawk Throwing Course is provided by Bushscout UK and is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of tomahawk throwing techniques, knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely deliver this exciting activity to our young members at The Scouts.

The course will be held at our county camp site at Kinver on Sunday 8th June 2025 from 9.30am to 4.00pm

Course Highlights:

1. Rules – Prioritise safety as you learn the fundamentals of safe tomahawk handling and throwing techniques.
2. Types of hawks – Learn how to choose the right tomahawk for your needs and how to maintain it for optimal performance.
3. Targets & Stands – Explore different target and stand types and what wood to use.
4. Activity area – Understand what you need to do to create a safe and effective range.
5. Risk assessments – It’s not all play, understand the risks and how to mitigate them.
6. Duration and session types – Adapting your training for different ages is an important part of running the activity.
7. Games – Engage in friendly competitions and games that challenge your accuracy and enhance your tomahawk throwing abilities.

You will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course.

£40 per person but this will be fully refunded for Hereford and Worcester Leaders who attend

The course will start at 9:30am and finish at 4pm.

You will need to bring a packed lunch with you, Tea and Coffee will be provided.
