Modules 5, 8 & 9 – Fundamentals of Scouting, Skills of Leadership, Working with Adults

Module 5

The Fundamentals of Scouting is for all adults in Scouting working towards the award of their Wood Badge. This module supports the learner to consider The Fundamentals and the Religious Policy and their relationship with the programme delivered to young people. The module explores the guiding principles of Scouting; the core values which The Scout Association stands for and believes in.

Topics covered:

  • The Fundamentals- the Purpose, Values and Method
  • The Religious Policy
  • Spiritual development

Module 8

This module aims to cover the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to be an effective leader

Topics covered:

  • Systematic planning
  • Action centred leadership
  • Leadership styles
  • Developing leadership skills in others

Module 9

This module aims to cover the underpinning functions required to work effectively as a member of an adult team.

Topics covered:

  • Communication
  • listening skills
  • decision making structures
  • representing others
