Main Trip (Summer Holiday Start – Dates TBC)

Experience the Wonders of Toronto and Niagara Falls

Our adventure begins in the vibrant city of Toronto, where we’ll have time to soak in the energy of Canada’s largest metropolis. We will visit the iconic landmarks like the CN Tower, take a stroll along the bustling streets, and discover the city’s unique blend of cultures, foods, and attractions. Toronto is known for its modern skyline, world-class museums, and stunning waterfront. Whether you’re a fan of shopping or sightseeing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Next, we’ll embark on a day trip to one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, Niagara Falls. Feel the power of the cascading waters as we take in breathtaking views and enjoy some time shopping in the nearby town. Niagara Falls is more than just a waterfall; it’s a full experience with opportunities to explore the surrounding areas, such as the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Five Days of Canoeing in Algonquin Park

Our journey continues with an unforgettable 5-day canoe expedition in Algonquin Provincial Park. Known for its vast wilderness, scenic lakes, and diverse wildlife, Algonquin is the perfect place to challenge yourself and connect with nature. We will paddle through the pristine waters, set up camp under the stars, and experience the tranquillity of the Canadian wilderness.

This is more than just a canoe trip; it’s an adventure filled with opportunities to spot wildlife such as moose and beavers, and experience the camaraderie of wilderness camping. The five-day expedition will not only test your paddling skills but also offer moments of peace and reflection in one of the most beautiful natural settings in the world.

Training Camps

To ensure we are fully prepared for this epic adventure, we will hold training camps. These will be essential for team-building, skill development, and expedition readiness.

Training Camp Schedule:

Paddle Days

We will also run a series of paddle days to practice canoeing and prepare for the expedition. We will schedule these when people have signed up to ensure we get the right level of practice.

Expedition Groupings

We will place participants into appropriate age and skill groups, and they may undertake different routes depending on their abilities. This will be discovered in the build-up to the actual trip

Main Expedition Leaders

The prominent leaders attending are qualified Kayak and Canoe Leaders with Paddle UK qualifications and the appropriate Scout Adventure Authority permits. They have completed water expeditions in Norway, Iceland, France, Holland, Canada, Switzerland and USA. They have also paddled in other countries such as Korea, Italy, Turkey, India and the Mediterranean.

Supporting Leaders

For other leaders in the county who wish to join, there will be an opportunity to sign up once we know the number of young people who want to attend. It is expected that these leaders will also need to commit to the training camps and paddle days to act as support. Leaders can register their interest to join here: https://forms.office.com/e/ULfMMMJ9e2

Payment Plan & Schedule

The cost of the trip will be £2750. This includes everything, including pre-camps. We have budgeted to take inflation into account and have 5% contingency. We will make every attempt to ensure the trip breaks even. If there is a dramatic change to airline pricing, we will advise of alternations to the trip regarding any price changes. This will be confirmed 12 months before the trip or when the airline publishes its prices.

Registration closes on the 1st November 2024. You can book on using the link by scrolling to the bottom of this page.

Fundraising

We will support a contingent approach to fundraising, helping run group-led events. Funds raised are allocated on a pro-rata basis based on attendance and support. Young people are also encouraged to be entrepreneurial and do individual fundraising too.
